Cryptolocker Ransomware Circulating In Google Drive Phishing Emails

Tech Tip: Cryptolocker Ransomware Circulating In Google Drive Phishing Emails

CRYPTOLOCKER ransomware is being distributed through a phishing email that appears to be a contact sharing a Google Drive file with you. Email header may read “XXX shared a document with you on Google Drive”.

NOTE: If you click the link and are redirected to a page to log in to your Gmail account again, STOP!!

This is a tip off that something is fishy. You see, if you are logged in to your Gmail checking email, and someone shares a Google Drive file with you, you should be auto directed to the open file when you click the link. Being asked to log in again is a tip off that you were redirected to a malicious site and may be about to install ransomware on your computer.

Ransomware is particularly difficult to remove without losing your files.
